November update
Fruit trees now delivered, distributed & planted. As part of the project, local schools were offered a free fruit tree. This was taken up by Black Horse Hill Infants, Black Horse Hill Juniors, St Bridget's and WK Residential School.
October 2009 update
Please order by 16th October.
Here is Morreys' latest stock list for you. Please have a look at this and let us know by the 16th October if you would like to order any trees. The trees will be delivered by 21st November - this is when the Friends of Grange Park tree planting is happening and all the trees will be ordered and delivered at the same time. The Friends of Grange Park will pay for the trees upfront. Anyone buying trees will need to reimburse them on (or before) collection on the 21st November.
On the list below, the letters after the tree variety refer to the tree shape, the numbers are the numbers of that variety of tree Morreys have in stock. These will drop before we place our order so if you want a 'rare' variety it may be better to go and get one straight away!
NB Popular cooking varieties are Grenadier, Howgate Wonder and Bramley Seedling. Popular desert apples are Cox Self Fertile, James Grieve and Laxtons Fortune. Almost all apple trees need another variety of apple tree nearby for fertilisation (Bramley Seedling needs two). The only variety that does not is Cox Self Fertile.
So, if you would like to order, please let us know which tree variety and shape (half standard, bush or fan). Prices are £14.95 for half standards, £12.50 for bush types, and fans are £24.50. Email your order (or send any questions) to ttwk.food@googlemail.com.

August 2009 update
We are going to put in an order for fruit trees at the beginning of October to Morreys Nursery, a local grower near Delamere in Cheshire. They have previously supplied trees to Transition Town West Kirby for planting in Grange Park. (There will be another planting day in Grange Park on 21 November.)
If you are interested in ordering, please have a look at Morreys website. They sell a wide variety of fruit trees and shrubs.
Morreys have offered to supply fruit trees at £12.50 for bush types and £14.95 for half standards (pictures of these are on the website). These are last years prices which they are holding for us this year.
They generally supply trees grafted onto a semi vigorous rootstock (fruit trees are not usually grown from seed, but have a section of the desired variety grafted onto root of a more common type). These trees will grow to 8-10 feet high
They also supply some trees grown on dwarfing rootstock which will produce a smaller tree, more suited to restricted spaces. They are putting together a stock list in the next few weeks, which will have details of all the trees they are selling this year, and the rootstock they are growing on. We will email this out when we get it from Morreys. The trees will be delivered around 21 November.
There are so many apple varieties it can sometimes be hard to know what to choose. The main choice is between cooking and eating apples. Popular cooking varieties are Grenadier, Howgate Wonder and Bramleys Seedling. Popular desert apples are Coxs Self Fertile, James Grieve and Laxtons Fortune.
Almost all apple trees need another variety of apple tree nearby for fertilisation (Bramleys Seedling needs two). The only variety that does not is Coxs Self Fertile.
If you are interested please have a look at Morreys website, think about what you might like to order and email ttwk.food@gmail.com to let us know you are interested (email with any questions too). We will email out the updated stock list when we get it from Morreys and will invite orders during September.
